Andy Heinze

“Monk’s Mood”, “Moody’s Mood for Love”,” In the Mood”….and since 1989 ”Andy’s Mood” on Rochester’s Jazz 90.1, has been a weekly labor of love for host Andy Heinze. The show’s name touches on the impromptu nature of the show and the psychic sparks (or listener requests) that can determine the show’s theme.   Andy was raised on an eclectic musical diet that included  Bebop, Big-Band, 70’s Fusion and hard rock.  As much as he enjoys showcasing rising stars, he consciously pays homage to the originators of today’s jazz music.  He also carried that philosophy into his day job as photojournalist at local TV stations WROC, WHEC and RNews.   Andy used his 21 years as Chief Photojournalist at Time Warner to expose Rochester viewers to Jazz artists as diverse as Gil Scott Heron, Max Roach, Oscar Peterson and even Diana Krall on her first CD tour.

Andy resides in Penfield and works in Syracuse at PBS station WCNY, as Director of Field Production and is counting the days until the next XRIJF.
