Phil has been a volunteer music host on Jazz 90.1 since 1995. He can be heard from 1 to 4 p.m. each weekday. Phil’s radio career started at Binghamton University’s WHRW in 1967. His radio work was interrupted somewhat by the “day job” he held (in a completely non-broadcast capacity) from 1971 to 2002. Phil is thoroughly familiar with a wide variety of jazz (as well as other kinds of music) but he especially enjoys featuring standards, jazz vocalists, the masters (Armstrong, Coltrane, Miles, Monk, and Mingus, among many others) and jazz versions of what he likes to call “Second Generation Standards”, tunes originally written by and performed by rock, folk, and pop performers from the 1960’s up to the present.
