Jazz90.1 University – History of Jazz in Rochester

Join Derrick Lucas for a fascinating discussion on the history of Rochester’s jazz scene looking back at some of its most famous clubs and characters, such as The Pythodd, Shep’s, The Ridge Crest Inn, Le Jazz Hot, Top Of The Plaza, Clinton Hall, Town & Country, Doug Dukes and other classic haunts when live jazz could be heard seven nights a week. A scene that included local legends such as The Mangione Brothers, Steve Gadd, Pee Wee Ellis, Roy McCurdy and others, performed alongside legends like Clifford Brown, Sonny Rollins and Oscar Peterson. Don’t miss this fantastic look back at Rochester’s historic jazz scene.
