Here’s Something to Watch!
Sure, some of you may not be old enough to remember Mister Rogers (or maybe you are!) Quite often, the children’s television host would feature jazz musicians on his program. Here is a very young Wynton Marsalis appearing with our friendly neighbor.
The NPR Tiny Desk series has become very popular. Did you know that our friends from Sesame Street once appeared as part of this series? Check this out, and be sure to come with us to Sesame Street!
Closing Activity:
For next week, here’s a fun activity that you can do:
Visit YouTube (safely with a parent, of course) and search for jazz music. Choose whether you would like to watch a vocalist perform (such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday etc.) or an instrumentalist play. Listen to the full song, and write how how the song made you feel.
Did the song make you feel happy? Sad? Did you tap your toes to the song? What did you love about it? Write down your ideas and share with a friend or family member. Music is all about feeling and jazz captures feeling so well. Have some fun with this!
Print and Play!
