Troy Andrews, better known as Trombone Shorty, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1986. He first performed at Jazz Fest in his hometown at age 4. By age 6 he was leading his own brass band, and he joined his first world tour with Lenny Kravitz as a teenager. Since then, he’s appeared on countless TV shows, tours, and festivals, as well as at the GRAMMY Awards, at the White House, and on Sesame Street. He started the Trombone Shorty Foundation to support kid’s music education in New Orleans, and the Trombone Shorty Music Academy which teaches music performance and business. Each Spring, the Foundation hosts “Shorty Fest,” which features student performers and national guests. His goal is to keep the rich musical heritage of New Orleans alive.
