Derrick Lucas has spent all of his adult life with Jazz90.1 serving in various capacities. From a teenage volunteer, to our Operations Assistant and Music Director, it’s safe to say that Derrick has worn all of the hats here.
Derrick has been with the station for 35 years, and can be credited for its rapid growth – building relationships locally, nationally and internationally. Dubbed the “unofficial Mayor of Jazz Street,” Derrick has also helped Jazz90.1 find a home with The Rochester International Jazz Festival, providing in-depth coverage of the festival each year.
He was first told to “come back when you’re older,” by then GM Lee Rust, and now – three and a half decades later – he’s our morning show host, Operations Assistant and Music Director.
Hear Derrick’s story as part of WGMC@50.
