Joshua Redman is a tenor saxophonist and composer. Born in Berkeley, California in 1969, he began playing saxophone at age 10. He was in music groups throughout his school years, then went to Harvard for Social Studies, graduating high in his class. He was accepted to Yale Law School but deferred his enrollment for what was supposed to be one year and went to live in Brooklyn with a few friends. He began touring regularly with some of the city’s leading musicians, was signed by a record label, released his first album, and earned his first Grammy nomination during his first two years there.

He continued to develop his style and started several bands while continuing to work with other musicians in the city. He has been featured in movies and TV shows, including Arthur on PBS Kids. He has won numerous awards, recorded over 20 albums, and has been nominated for 11 Grammy awards.
